Rhetoric Workshop
On Wednesday, the 3rd of March, at 10.00 a.m. till 17.00 p.m. will be held a Rhetoric Workshop in Garching (auditorium 00.12.019). The trainer will be Lothar Wüst, who has a long experience as Management-Coach and Consultant in the fields of Human Resources, Change-Managemen and Management Development.

11th European PhD School: Power Electronics in Electric Machines & Energy Control 22-26 March, Brixen Italy
Five lectures, one theoretical and one practical seminar are scheduled for the 11th edition of the European Ph.D School in Brixen, Italy. Speakers are Prof. Bimal K Bose, holder of the Condra Chair of Excellence/Emeritus in Power Electronics University of Tennessee, Dipl.-Ing. Andreas Falk of SMA Solar Technology, and Dr. Enrico Busto of The Mathworks.
Doctoral candidates are invited to present their research on 23 March. The school has obtained the patronage of the European Commission and students will receive a European participation certificate at the end of the courses.

Intercultural Aspects of Working in Global Teams
The chair for information systems is currently planning a new "Überfachliche Grundlagen" seminar called "Intercultural Aspects of Working in Global Teams".
This seminar will first talk about the different dimensions of culture as identified in research, characterize dominant national cultures and then highliht the relationship between culture and various aspects of organization behaviour using examples and case studies.
The seminar will be held in English and takes place on the 4th, 5th, and 11th of March 2010. Students can earn 4 ECTS-points. Admission will start on January 7. For detailed information please refer to the chair's website (http://www.winfobase.de > Lehre > Lehrveranstaltungen > SS2010).

Excursion to Herrenchiemsee
At the 18th of April, 2010 at 8:30 a.m. the TUM International Office invites you to visit the island Herenchiemsee including the Palace of Herrenchiemsee and the King Ludwig II museum. The event is part of the "CULTURAL PROGRAM FOR INTERNATIONAL RESEARCHERS AND FRIENDS" organized by the TUM International Office.
We will first have a guided tour through the Palace of Herrenchiemsee and visit the King Ludwig II museum which documents the story of Ludwig II's life from his birth to his tragic early death with painted portraits, busts, historic photographs and original state robes. Later on we will all meet again on the mainland in Prien am Chiemsee where we will invite you to a typically German "Kaffee und Kuchen" (Coffee and cake) before we take the train back to Munich at about 6:30 p.m.

Come and join the German Stammtisch to practice your spoken German language skills. We meet weekly with international doctoral candidates and reseaerchers. Mr Hermann from the International Office and former German and English teacher organises discussions on various topics of interest (No registration, free of charge).

CHE Research Ranking
In the research ranking of the CHE (Center for Higher Education Development), the TUM Informatics Department is in the lead. It is one of the strongest informatics departments in Germany in the field of research. The ranking consisted of comparing third-party funds, number of doctorates and reputation. In order to gauge reputation, professors were asked which university they saw as research leaders in their field.

The TUM by international comparison
The Technische Universität München is ranked 55th by the Times Higher Education's 2009 World University Ranking, which puts her first among German universities.
The Times ranked universities according to their ratio between researchers and published papers, the ratio between lecturers and students as well as their percentage of international students. One of the main criteria was the esteem in which the university was held by roughly 10 000 interviewed researchers and more than 3 000 interviewed employers.
Interact 2010
The one-day PhD symposium "<interact> 2010" will take place on Tuesday, the 23rd of March 2010 at the main building of the Ludwigs-Maximilians-Universität (LMU). Presentations and posters of PhD students will be the main focus of the symposium, serving as a platform for interdisciplinary discussion. The symposium is open to participants from all areas of life science interested in presenting their work to a broad scientific audience. All contributions are structured into blocks of topics by a pre-selection process of posters and talks. The two renowned keynote speakers Susan Lindquist and Paolo Sassone-Corsi will provide the framework for the symposium.
Time: Tuesday, 23rd of March 2010, 9:00 a.m.

STF China
The Science & Technology Programme China (STF China), 2008-2011, is designed to build bridges between the European Union and China in the Science & Technology domain. It promotes the mobility of EU researchers towards the Chinese research and development area.

The call for proposals for the 2nd intake is open now, and the period of application has been extended until 4 January, 2010, in order to make sure that qualified researchers from all member states can apply for this programme. TANDEM Program
TANDEM Alliance - is a European Commission funded program which aims to bring closer Europe and China in the field of higher education and research, and their management. By working and cooperating together TANDEM Alliance may contribute to the development of friendly Sino-European relationships and help the promotion of economical, cultural, scientific and political exchanges, and the sharing of international recognized values.
The TANDEM alliance will establish a mobility of 245 individuals from leading Chinese and European universities. Doctorates, post-doctorates and staff exchange are predominant with 56% of the total mobility flow. The TANDEM alliance focuses on the priority subject areas like Agricultural Sciences, Architecture, Urban and Regional Planning, Engineering, Technology, Mathematics, Informatics, Natural Sciences and a few others.
The closing date of applications is the 5th of December 2009.

TUM ForTe´s Office for Young Researches offers a wide range of activities for international doctoral candidates. TUM-Adventsmatinée
On Sunday, the 29th of November 2009, at 11 a.m., the symphonic ensemble of Munich - which hosts many TUM alumni - will perfom under the direction of an Felix Mayer at the Philharmonie am Gasteig.
The performance should bring all students, alumni, sponsors, patrons together. Entry is free, nevertheless the TUM is happy to receive donations for the TUM-kindergarden in Garching and Weihenstephan.
