Analysis of Epigenetic Mechanisms in Atopic Eczema and Related Traits

PI´s
: Prof. Stefan Wagenpfeil, Dr. Stephan Weidinger
PhD Candidates: Hansjörg Baurecht, M.Sc.; Anja Kleinschmidt, Dipl.-Biol.

This project examines the role of genetic and epigenetic alterations in atopic dermatitis. Atopic dermatitis is a biologically complex and heterogeneous allergic disease, and there is limited information known about recurrent genomic or epigenomic abnormalities in this disorder. The project will involve the use of high throughput technologies with a focus on methylation arrays. Molecular and cell biology techniques will be applied to functionally determine the role of genes of interest. The PhD candidates will work on this cutting-edge project in an interdisciplinary team of physicians, molecular biologists and statisticians in cooperation with Helmholtz Center Munich and the Institute of Medical Statistics and Epidemiology of the TUM. Experimental work will mainly be carried out at the Helmholtz Center München (Genome Analysis Center). This project is based at the Institute of Medical Statistics and Epidemiology of the TUM in cooperation with Helmholtz Center Munich.
